#SCENERY DRAWING DRIVERS#
Only real issues arise when drivers bend the rule book and attempt ambitious overtakes.Ĭould always do with a glow-up every now and then, but good enough for now.Drawing Scenery is a collection of beautiful landscapes. Gets you from A to B without any real flashiness. Major hiccups have been corrected in recent months - heading from the roundabout at Applegreen into Spalding is no longer the bouncing, pothole-ridden and tyre-destroying journey it once was. Tends to get a bit of a kicking, but I think it’s pretty good. Helps to link the likes of Spalding, Cowbit, Crowland and Moulton Chapel. Just don’t let that middle section get any worse. Speed limits are sensible and there are no silly corners, so overall a sturdy stretch. My little car isn’t a fan of that, but wrangle your way past them and you’re fine. It’s not quite Old Fendike Road, but there are some dips, weaves and cracks worth avoiding just as you pass Delgate Bank - particularly upon leaving the village. This road, which runs from Moulton Chapel to the A16 and vice versa, is satisfactory for the most part - bar one unfortunate stretch in the middle.
Moulton Chapel Road (58686093)Ĭlose but no cigar. Queues can get lengthy, and if you’re stuck behind a slow-moving farm vehicle during rush hour then good luck getting past it. Plenty of roundabouts to quell speeding drivers, and barely a pothole to speak of.Īctually quite a fun drive - the A16 can feel boring at points, but this road features plenty of scenery changes and passes through enough towns and villages to keep us entertained. As is a common theme, the road itself is fine - it’s the traffic that’s the issue. A new roundabout at the Spalding Western Relief Road should help.Ĭonnects the likes of Holbeach, Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge.
Pinchbeck Road, Spalding (58686511)Ĭould be better, but could be worse. Gridlock aside, Pinchbeck Road and Spalding Road are in decent shape - bar the pesky roadworks currently taking place on the former. It’s no secret that railway crossing barriers in Spalding are the stuff of nightmares, and cars grind to a halt on this stretch when Woolram Wygate’s go down.ĭrivers veer onto the wrong side of the road to skip queues, with junctions blocked and brake lights flashing. These two roads are joined at the hip, connecting Spalding and Pinchbeck. It only scores two points because of its excellent name and brilliant views. Old Fendike Road, Weston Hills (58686255)ĭo you stay on the left? Creep down the middle, or cross to the right entirely? The answer is different with every passing crevice. The road is cracked, it veers in different directions, it’s a hazard to all who brave its warped tarmac.
Unfortunately, you have to go over it - but how long before you tip off it? Old Fendike Road, Weston Hills (58686299) A sole sharp bend is worth looking out for, but aside from that it’s smooth sailing. Road surface in top condition, and traffic is never too bad. Three separate speed limits are frustrating but sensible - and give me credit for putting my personal grievances aside here, as Barrier Bank’s speed camera is the only to ever catch me out. Incredibly useful - you can avoid the A16 and enjoy a lovely view without taking any dodgy back roads. Is your route home heavenly smooth, or a dreaded part of your daily routine? See if my rankings stack up with your own views.Ī little unorthodox, but a solid country road that does everything it needs to. I've ranked some of the best and worst roads in the district, drawing from personal experience and the frequent feedback we receive on our highways. South Holland's roads have it all, but some of them are better - or indeed worse - than others.
